Join me and indulge yourself in the best National Something Day ever!
With the European Day of Languages upon us (26 September) we are being encouraged to spread our linguistic wings. Unfortunately, not all of us have the time even though we may have the inclination. If you are in that number then I have a little treat for you.
When it comes to search engines, Google is not my favourite. AltaVista is the place to be for me! And their Babel Fish translation tool is to die for.
This is an application developed by AltaVista which translates text or web pages from one of several languages into another.
The system takes its name from the Babel fish, a fictional animal used for instant language translation in Douglas Adams' novel The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The word Babel is a borrowed from the biblical account of the city of Babel and the various languages which are said to have emerged from there.
As yesterday was National Dating Day, you may be feeling a little romantic and want to tell the one you love, or the one you want, that you love them in several different languages. Nice idea? Well, thanks to this nifty little translation tool, you can!
I can now say I love you in 5 languages:
French: Je t'aime
Italian: Ti amo
German: Ich liebe dich
Portugese: Eu te amo
Spanish: Te quiero
Dutch: Ik houd van u
Of course, I cannot vouch for the correct pronunciation so my recommendation would be to impress via email! That's got to be worth some brownie points!
