I am fairly new to the delights of itunes.com but I am already hooked. I love my music and I particularly love discovering a new artist that really hits the spot.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to satisfy my musical thirst as it is not always easy to hunt down the suitable candidates, but I have found a site that serves as a giant step in the right direction.
Liveplasma.com is a search engine with an ingenious difference.
Simply type in the name of one of your favourite artists, press enter and stand by.
Very quickly, a delightful screen presents you with a range of other artists you might like. Click on one of the related artists that appear and the chain continues. Clever.
I happen to love Paul Weller's music so, predictably, I typed Paul Weller into the search field and was promptly presented with a screen full of other artists I may enjoy, including:
Belle and Sebastian
Style Council
The Jam
Elvis Costello
Neil Young
Warren Zevon
It also works for movies. Shawshank Redemption, which is one of my all time favourites, results in suggestions including The Green Mile.
This is an intriguing result. I haven't yet seen The Green Mile but it was loaned to me last week when a friend told me that I would really enjoy it! So liveplasma.com is at the very least in agreement with a good friend of mine. I will let you know if they have got it right when I find the time to watch it.
Shawshank also leads to Goodfellas, Scarface and Monster, which in turn, leads to Master and Commander - another of my favourites. It look like this site works!
As well as music and movies, you can specify an artist, band, director or actor so you get the opportunity to really refine your search.
This is a great site and definitely worth a look before you take out your next DVD.
