A few weeks ago we featured a nostalgic look at the sitcom which took us to the BBC web site. If that served to whet your appetite for nostalgia, you're going to love this week's popular and comprehensive site offering a complete nostalgia-fest! Movies, music, television programmes, events, trends, fashions and toys are all here in all their, erm, glory!
Just recently, I was recalling a programme I used to watch as a very little girl called Sebastian and the White Horses. I entered the title into Google and was not a little surprised when it came back with zero results. Surely I haven't found a hole in the internet sock, I thought. Logic prevailed as I realised I had probably got the title wrong. Further searches revealed I was actually looking for Belle, Sebastian and the Horses which was the follow-up to Belle and Sebastian.
My search had led me to nostalgiacentral.com, which has been going since 1998 and enjoys over 1.5million visits a month, so I guess there's a few people enjoying a fairly frequent yearning for days gone by!
Each decade includes an overview of each of the topics covered with links through to more information and photographs. The site is the most comprehensive source of information on popular culture I have found. In addition to the casual visitor looking for their favourite TV programme, it is used by journalists, researchers and students as a highly informative research tool.
The sixties covers, amongst otheres, Mary Quant (who, I believe, most men are still very grateful too for introducing the mini-skirt to the world) Twiggy, the Pill, the World Cup 66, Charles Manson, Carnaby Street, British Radio and GI Joe.
The seventies remind us of the fashions that style forgot as well as Scalectrix, Nadia Komanech, George Best, Cosmopolitan, Idi Amin, CB Radios and the Raleigh Chopper.
And last but not least, the eighties includes such classics as the Cabbage Patch Dolls, George Bush Senior, Haileys Comet, Anorexia, Monster Trucks, Comic Relief, Margaret Thatcher and self-help!
It is a comprehensive site that will bring memories flooding back... whether you like it or not!
