I have got a Christmas treat for you this week - it's two for the price of one. One for your child and one for your inner child!
Let's get the children occupied and happy first. If you have pre-school children or youngsters that like the occasional online game then www.santagames.net is for you.
For a seasoned surfer, the most wonderful thing about this site is that it does not have an obvious commercial motivation. With the exception of a few little Google ads, there is no hidden agenda. You simply enter Santa's Grotto and away you go. Screen savers, games, wallpapers, games, e-cards and, yes, more games.
The Advent Calendar is worth a look and as it's now 11th December (at the time of writing) you will have plenty to catch up on but you can't see what is behind tomorrow's date - that would be cheating! And the site doesn't let you anyway.
The e-cards are particularly useful and of a nice quality. If it's 22nd December when you remember you've forgotten someone at least you can drop them an e-card to soften the blow. It's not quite the same as a traditional card especially as the ancient art of letter-writing is all but dead, but it'll still show you have remembered them... eventually.
The graphics on this site are 2D and very endearing. Children, especially the very young, will be enthralled at seeing Santa sitting in his rocking chair by the fire. To navigate the site, you simply move your mouse around until an item lights up with details of whats behind the click.
The games all seem to be of a good standard with the exception of Solitaire - it's impossible to win! Believe me, I have tried... and tried... and tried.
Meanwhile, for our inner child is a site dedicated to sweets of a bygone age.
If you are old enough to remember Aniceed Balls, Rhubard and Custard, Sweet Peanuts and Acid Drops, then www.bahhumbugs.com is just what the doctor ordered. Actually, it's probably what the doctor told you to avoid but it's Christmas and if that's the word the marks the start of your seasonal indulgence, then take a look at this site.
Boiled sweets, jelly babies, liquorice, nuts, toffees and whirlypops, they are all here. I'll make sure I look out for a good healtchcare site in the new year so just relax and enjoy!
